The Broken Play!

You don't have to be a die hard soccer fan to appreciate this photograph. The passion and power of the world's
most loved game comes through in this one picture. If "a picture is worth a thousand words", ...
In case you missed it, take a close look at #22's right shin area, ouch! This photo captured the
moment of impact and ensuing fracture of his leg. You can even see the point of the broken
bone as it prepares to possibly break through the skin at the bottom of the calf muscle, double ouch!
Some good shinguards might have helped!
Special thanks to my younger brother, Alfred "Bear" Gutierrez, for sharing this photograph he found a few blocks
from our home many, many years ago. The original 14"x11" black and white photo mounted on a slighlty larger black
background stock bore no date or any additional information about the game or participants except for a small
title sqare, 'Broken Play'. I scanned the image and reduced it for easier handling.
