11/02/2000, 7 PM, Southside Juventus opended the game much crisper, faster to the ball, working the passing game well. Midway through the first half Juventus took the ball wide right and fed a nice pass into the middle where a team mate deftly headed the pass into the inside bottom of the far post and into the goal. Later in the the same half Juventus nearly scored again on a similar play but the head shot we awry. Brendan, ACCA keeper, needed every inch of his 6 ft, plus, frame to extend himself horizontally to make a very nice block of a Juventus shot on goal a bit later. Juventus looked to be clearly in control of the game with a 1-0 lead at the end of the half. The second half began much the same way with Juventus controlling the tempo of the game but about ten minutes later things began to change. AC Cruz Azul began to string three and four passes together and actually mount some attacks against Juventus. About mid way into this half Cruz Azul secured the equalizer when Jason went up to receive a feed from a corner kick and headed the ball. The head shot went down and bounced forward in front of the keeper and Chava then put his head on the ball also sending it in further and the ACCA had knotted the match at 1-1. (Don't know if the side line ref had already awarded the goal on Jason's header or on Chava's finish.) The momentum definitely shifted with our goal and the guys in blue and kept pressuring. With about ten minutes left in the game Dario received a brilliantly placed ball in the middle of the field, just past the midfield mark and defenders. He sped past the defenders to create a one-on-one against the Juventus keeper. Dario's shot from outside the 18 yd. mark left the keeper flat footed but the ball's trajectory was not true and it bouced wide & out of play off of the bottom of the upright. (The moans and groans from the ACCA faithful were painful to bare.) With time winding down the AC Cruz Azul were thinking that coming away with tie was a good thing at this point. Still working hard and pressing as a team, Ruben was working the right side and sent in a high, floating "pass" towards the goal. The ACCA players and Juventus players followed the ball looking to either head it in or head it away respectively. The Juventus keeper also watched the ball sailing in but must have assumed it was going to go wide and deep past the goal but instead he wound up just watching the ball gently sail into the the top right corner of the goal! Cruz Azul now had taken the lead and stunned the team from Woodland. The ball was brought the center of the field to reinitiate play but as soon as the ball was two-touched the referee blew her whistle signaling the end of the game. The AC Cruz Azul had snatched the victory within the the last twenty seconds of the game.
